Job Summary:

The role holder is responsible for the preventive maintenance, repair, overhaul and troubleshooting of rotating equipment (steam turbine, gas turbine, centrifugal / reciprocating compressors and pumps) and its auxiliaries.  Familiarised completely with the allocated area of work, the equipment / machinery involved and general idea of the process for which he is responsible for the maintenance activities.

 

The role holder will carry out day to day basic maintenance jobs independently under normal supervision. Housekeeping is an important issue, as is the proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment. The role holder must ensure that all the activities are carried out in compliance with QAFCO occupational health, Quality, Safety, Energy and Environment procedures.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Carry out the assigned day-to-day routine and non-routine maintenance activities independently under normal supervision to ensure work is completed on time and to quality standards.
  • Provide advice on completion of work verbally or completing work sheets in order that superior can effectively monitor overall work progress against plans.
  • Gain approval for cold work permits in order to facilitate the execution of assigned tasks in compliance with safety requirements.
  • Conduct toolbox meeting to discuss scheduled work activities and ensure correct tools and safety equipment are available prior to commencement of work.
  • Identify and report problems / findings to immediate superior in order to avert possible malfunction of equipment.
  • Adhere strictly to safety procedures, including lock out/tag out (LOTO), isolation standards, and hazardous area requirements during rotating equipment maintenance.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all safety procedures and permit to work requirements, including LOTO, confined space guidelines, handling of hazardous materials, and safe use of lifting equipment, to always maintain a safe working environment.
  • Use precision measuring tools accurately—such as micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, feeler gauges, and bore gauges—to verify tolerances, measure components, and ensure equipment is assembled to the required specifications
  • Perform basic rigging and lifting activities in accordance with approved lifting plans and safety procedures, including the safe use of slings, shackles, chain blocks, and hoists to move rotating equipment components during maintenance tasks.
  • Lead group of contracted manpower to carry out specific tasks during shutdown.
  • Perform routine condition checks on rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, and motors, including vibration readings, temperature checks, and lubrication inspections.
  • Carry out alignment tasks (soft foot correction, preliminary alignment checks, and final alignment activities) using appropriate tools such as dial gauges and laser alignment systems.
  • Assist in the dismantling and assembly of rotating equipment, ensuring proper handling of bearings, seals, couplings, and precision components in accordance with standard procedures.
  • Conduct cleaning, inspection, and minor refurbishment of equipment parts (e.g., filters, strainers, oil systems, bearing housings) to maintain equipment reliability.
  • Support lubrication activities, including oil changes, grease application, and sample collection for oil analysis, ensuring correct grades and quantities are used.
  • Perform basic diagnostics during equipment abnormalities, including unusual vibration, noise, temperature rise, or leakage, and immediately report findings to the supervisor.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and preservation of spare parts, especially precision components such as bearings, seals, and couplings.
  • Maintain tools, instruments, and workshop equipment in good condition and ensure calibration schedules for measurement tools are followed.
  • Follow equipment-specific maintenance procedures and OEM instructions during routine and corrective maintenance tasks.
  • Assist engineers and senior technicians during major overhauls, turnarounds, and shutdown activities involving rotating equipment.
  • Complete work notifications and feedback in SAP, ensuring accurate reporting of tasks performed, materials used, and equipment condition.

Desired Candidate Profile:

  • Minimum of High School + 2 years Diploma in relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years direct experience working in Fertilizer, Petrochemical, Chemical, or Oil & Gas Industry. 
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, with strong communication, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good knowledge of maintenance of steam turbines, gas turbines, centrifugal compressors, reciprocating compressors, couplings, different bearing types, mechanical seals, and dry gas seals. In addition to, different types of valves, exchangers, pressure relieving devices, lubricant, and their function, selection criteria and usage.
  • Familiar with engineering drawings, specifications and documentation.
