About The Role:

The role holder has prime responsibility for assisting Head of Safet and/or Senior Loss Prevention Engineer in implementing Process Safety Management System in line with OSHA 29CFR 1910.119 in the organization. The position also carrying out adequate and uniform process safety incident investigation in the organization and carrying out Risk Management, improvement in Safety Management System in line with ISO 45001 standard requirement and Responsible Care Management System RC 14001 Standard requirement & necessary document control. Administer and follow-up Management System, participate in improvement projects relating to process safety, monitoring of process safety key performance indicators, Conduct Process Safety related training and provide required inputs & reports to the Head of Section/ Senior Engineer-Loss Prevention. He shall also actively participate in Management of Change, Risk Assessment (Process Hazard Analysis/HAZOP, QRA studies), Pre-Start up Safety Review, Contractor Safety Evaluation as required by OSHA CFR 1910.119.  He shall ensure that all Process Safety activities are carried out in a smooth and efficient manner in line with the procedures in the Organization.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist Head of Section/ Senior Loss Prevention Engineer by providing information on technical areas relevant to process safety and advising on the solutions and establish process safety incident prevention program.
  • Standardization of process safety incident investigation methodology.
  • Participate in HSE Risk Management studies such as HAZOP/Process Hazard Analysis, QRA studies and 
  • Provide assistance for establishing suitable Hazard identification process/techniques when requested by Head of Section/ Senior Loss Prevention Engineer.
  • Carry out annual incident analysis to highlight the area for improvement.
  • Collect Process Safety Management Performance Indicators inputs from relevant trades, analyze data, and prepare report. 
  • Carrying out analysis and preparation of reports on various process safety activities as required by the Head of Section/ Senior Loss Prevention Engineer and provide recommendation, if required. 
  • Prepare Incident Statistics Report, Work Permit Audit Analysis Report, and other reports as and when required.
  • Participate in studies, investigations and improvement projects related to process safety. Assessment techniques, questioning, evaluating, and reporting.
  • Coordinate projects as assigned by Head of Safety/ Senior Loss Prevention Engineer for overall improvement of process safety management systems.
  • Participate in Management of Change, Pre-Start up Safety Review, Contractor Safety Evaluation.
  • Update documents relevant to process safety by coordination with concerned trades / personnel and distribute them as relevant.
  • Keep informed about Technological development in the area of responsibility in order to identify and recommend opportunities for increased effectiveness.
  • Participate in Process safety, OH&S, Responsible Care, Environmental & Quality Audits.
  • Procure relevant books, standards and codes of practices as and when relevant, for safety library.
  • Prepare module for Process Safety related trainings. 
  • Facilitate Process Safety related trainings. 
  • Make presentation on specialized process safety topics to section staff and concerned trades staff as and when required.
  • Conduct Process Safety Management report review meeting with respective trades. 
  • Work closely with staffs of different level within the section and outside the sections for getting inputs for process safety activities and vice-versa.
  • Participate in meetings / discussions and communicate with external parties in the field of interest.
  • Coordinate with various trades within the organization (internal customers) for activities assigned.

Candidate Desired Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably Chemical Engineering or relevant engineering.
  • A minimum of 7 years direct, relevant and proven successful experience in a similar position with extensive experience in the Process Safety field within Fertilizer, Petrochemicals or Oil & Gas industry.
  • Certifications, such as NEBOSH International Technical Certificate in Oil and Gas Operational Safety, Process Safety Management, Incident Investigations & Root Cause Analysis, Process Hazard Analysis are desirable.
  • Should have knowledge about codes, standards and recommended practices for Process Safety Management 
  • Should have good engineering judgment; ability to recognize, assess, and mitigate hazards, Attention to detail, initiative, highly organized, good analytical skills, and practical use of engineering principles.
  • Should understand Process Safety (PS) auditing techniques, inspection and assurance process.
  • Should know safety integrity level (SIL) analysis objectives and SIL target level assignment methodologies.
  • Should be familiar with key process safety (PS) metrics and the requirement for process or facility safety metrics.
