Job Summary:

The role holder is responsible for the Maintenance of Electrical equipment, switchgears, and motors and troubleshooting. Familiarized completely with the allocated area of work, the equipment / machinery involved and general idea of the process for which he is responsible for the maintenance activities. They will carry out day to day basic maintenance jobs independently under normal supervision. Housekeeping is an important issue, as is the proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment. They must ensure that all the activities are carried out in compliance with QAFCO occupational health, Quality, Safety, Energy and Environment procedures.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Carry out the assigned day-to-day routine and non-routine maintenance activities independently under normal supervision to ensure work is completed on time and to quality standards.
  • Provide advice on completion of work verbally or completing work sheets in order that superior can effectively monitor overall work progress against plans.
  • Gain approval for cold work permits in order to facilitate the execution of assigned tasks in compliance with safety requirements.
  • Conduct toolbox meeting to discuss scheduled work activities and ensure correct tools and safety equipment are available prior to commencement of work.
  • Identify and report problems / findings to immediate superior in order to avert possible malfunction of equipment.
  • Provide work direction to contract-hired manpower. 
  • Lead group of contracted manpower to carry out specific tasks during shutdown.

Desired Candidate Profile:

  • Minimum of High School + 2 years Diploma in relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years direct experience working in Fertilizer, Petrochemical, Chemical, Power Plant, or Oil & Gas Industry. 
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, with strong communication, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience at Chemical Plant in installation and maintenance of Low voltage 415V and medium voltage 3.3KV switchgears; 415V, 3.3KV and 11KV motors; battery, battery charger and UPS; low and medium voltage power cable, control cable, control system components, contractors, relays, timers, overloads, lighting systems, etc.  
  • Knowledge of area classification and hazardous area equipment is essential and knowledge in frequency converters, PLC’s, motor winding and DC motors and the maintenance of electrical equipment, PLC, UPS and Frequency Converters is an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of operations and maintenance of alternators, three-phase motors, battery systems, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), electrical equipment in Substation and Equipment rooms,  instrument and control equipment and system, power distribution systems, procedures of low voltage (LV) switches and isolators, low voltage (LV) circuit breaker.
  • Understand the principles of estimation of electrical loads on an electrical power system, operation and design principles of motor control centers (MCCs), principles of electrical theory of electrical equipment found in Petrochemical or oil and gas facilities.
  • Know how to isolate and deisolate electrical systems and equipment in a safe manner, current transformers and voltage transformer’s function, work with low voltage cables and terminations in a safe manner.
  • Familiar with engineering drawings, specifications and documentation; extract information; sketch process, logic sequence or electrical circuit of an engineering asset.
  • Know how to use the full complement of firefighting equipment and understand the Permit to Work (PTW) system.
